The play 'Ordet' (The Word) was written by Kaj Munk who was a Lutheran Pastor and playwright in Denmark in the 1930s. He had a string of successful plays at the main theatre in Copenhagen but remains little known outside Denmark. When the Germans invaded Denmark in 1940 he denounced them from his pulpit and was found shot by the roadside the next day.

In our rational, logical world how will we cope with faith when it becomes central to our lives and families?

The original version of 'The Word' was set on a remote farm in Denmark in the 1930s and had a large cast. In this new touring version by Alan Avery, the cast has been slimmed down to the four main characters and given a modern setting, whilst remaining faithful to the ideas of the original play. The end of the play has been called 'one of the most powerful and moving pieces of theatre in the twentieth century'.

The play will be toured from Monday 4th October to Saturday 23rd October, 2010.  All that venues require to book one of our plays is a space about three metres by three metres and two thirteen amp power points. We bring everything else and supply posters, flyers and programmes. The cost could be met by ticket sales and outreach funding. If you can provide B&B for the actors, then the cost falls significantly. Meetings wishing to book a play should contact the Quaker Theatre Company for full details and a booking form.
